What kind of light effect does the embossed glass create?
The bell shade is embossed with foliage and flower-bud patterns, so as light passes through the glass it casts a dappled interplay of light and shadow onto the surrounding walls and ceiling. Rather than a flat, uniform glow, the Thayer produces a textured, atmospheric light with soft patterning — best appreciated with a warm-toned bulb to enhance the ethereal, vintage quality.
What bulb does the Thayer use?
The Thayer uses a single E26 or E27 bulb (the standard medium screw base in North America and Europe respectively), so bulbs are widely available. You can use either an LED or an Edison-style filament bulb; a warm-white LED filament bulb is recommended to complement the brass finish and bring out the dappled shadow effect through the embossed glass. Bulbs are not included.
Can it be used in a bathroom or over a vanity?
The Thayer suits a vanity or powder room in a dry, well-ventilated area, positioned beside the mirror and away from direct water spray. As an indoor sconce, it should not be installed in a wet zone such as directly above a shower or tub. For damp or wet bathroom areas, a fixture with an IP44 or higher rating is required.
