Imagine this: You are standing at the entrance of a residence—a space that is not just a path to the interior, but the defining cover page for the entire home. For an interior designer, this area demands an art piece that can truly capture attention and define the style.

When professional designer Sakina contacted us, her vision was clear: she sought to create a "sculptural suspended glass leaf installation" for her client. This art piece had to be functional, unique, and perfectly scaled for the expansive entryway.

This custom journey started with a few seemingly simple technical inquiries, ultimately evolving into a deep collaboration marked by challenges and innovation.

💡 1. A Project Begins With Three Simple Questions

Every great design story starts with curiosity.

When interior designer Sakina reached out to us, she had a bold idea for her client’s grand entryway — a floating installation of sculptural glass leaves. Before anything else, she needed clarity on the essentials:

  • Where is the electricity located?
  • Do the leaves light up, or is the light source separate?
  • What are the costs and timelines?

What began as a technical inquiry soon unfolded into a deeply collaborative custom project.

🛠️ 2. Exploring Light Sources: The Quest for Perfect Illumination

Early in the project, a crucial technical detail was established: the glass leaves were decorative elements, not the primary lighting units. This meant we needed to find an independent and ideal light source solution for the fixture.

We explored two main lighting and installation strategies with the designer:

  • Option 1: Recessed Downlights. This required installing separate LED downlights in the ceiling plaster, with the light projected downward. This option offered a clean aesthetic, was easy to replace, and fully complied with strict Canadian electrical codes.
  • Option 2: Metal Canopy with Integrated Lighting. This method embeds the light source directly into the top Canopy Plate of the chandelier, bathing the leaves in uniform light. This provided a cleaner, more contemporary finished look.

Sakina’s attention to detail was excellent. We clarified the effects and even confirmed the fixture would be supplied as a functioning light fixture compliant with Canadian electricity codes. Ultimately, our design direction focused on the Integrated Canopy solution for the most seamless and aesthetically pleasing final effect.

📏 3. The Sizing Challenge: Finding the Perfect Dramatic Scale

With a 201 cm wide entryway and 277 cm ceiling height, scale was essential.

We analyzed our size guide together, calculated proportions, and tested multiple dimensions:

  • 51 cm (recommended by the chart) — too small
  • 100 cm — impressive but potentially overpowering
  • 90 × 70 × 80 cm (35" x 27.5" x 31.5") — the perfect dramatic statement

As Sakina put it: “The concept of this fixture is to be more dramatic in the entrance.” We agreed — and moved forward with the dimensions that best served her client's vision.

🎨 4. Style Direction: Translating Inspiration Into Technical Design

The designer shared reference photos of sculptural leaf chandeliers, organic silhouettes, and floating glass compositions.

This imagery guided our team when creating custom ACD drawings (Architectural and Construction Details), tailored precisely to:

  • Ceiling layout and structural load
  • Downlight placements (for the alternative version)
  • Leaf distribution and drop heights
  • Future maintenance needs

By aligning inspiration with engineering, the design began taking a very real, executable shape.

🌟 5. Customization Moments That Made the Piece Unique

Every decision contributed to the final aesthetic, pushing the piece beyond standard production:

  • Leaf Composition: A bold and refined mix of 75% Gold Leaves + 25% Clear Leaves was selected to ensure the chandelier glows with rich, warm saturation.
  • Canopy Selection: The Gold Stainless-Steel Canopy was chosen to match the leaves, providing a warm, luxurious, and timeless finish.
  • Built-In LED Sources: We ensured that the warm LED light source was included in the final package, making it a complete, ready-to-install lighting solution.
  • Electrician-Friendly Design: We delivered exact technical specifications and installation notes to ensure a seamless setup that complies with local codes.

This balance of beauty + function is at the heart of every custom project we take on.

🤝 6. Trust, Transparency, and the Designer Discount

As the project neared finalization, Sakina reached out about the designer commission she earns.

She had been offered a discount earlier — and as a designer, honoring this was important to her business.

“This is what you offered me and that is why I spoke to my clients about you. Please honour this.”

We honored it.

A fair partnership matters. Always. By confirming the 15% discount, we reaffirmed our commitment to supporting our design partners.

She confirmed the order shortly after: Order No. D943 — Custom Glass-Leaf Chandelier

🖼️ 7. Installation Day — And the Reveal

A few weeks later, a message arrived with a link: An Instagram reel of the installed chandelier.

The video was breathtaking.

  • The glass leaves shimmered softly.
  • The gold and clear mix created incredible depth.
  • The entryway transformed into a luminous gallery moment.

The lighting, the scale, the composition — everything aligned beautifully.

Sakina wrote: “Enjoy the chandelier. Please ask permission before reposting anywhere. Thought I would share.” We were honored.

✨ 8. The Power of Collaboration

This project wasn’t just manufacturing a light; it was a shared creative journey—dozens of messages, inspiration photos, drawings, pricing options, installation notes, and aesthetic refinements.

But most importantly: It was a project built on trust, communication, and design passion from both sides. The final result reflects that energy.

Final Thoughts

Custom lighting is never just about illumination. It’s about storytelling—understanding a space, a mood, a vision.

Working with Sakina reminded us why we love what we do:

  • Designers who push boundaries
  • Projects that require craftsmanship and imagination
  • Collaborations that turn ideas into reality

To Sakina: Thank you for letting us be part of your design journey. Your chandelier is a masterpiece—because your vision made it one.

Your next masterpiece awaits. Ready to design yours?
