A putti (plural: putti; from Italian for "small boy") is a small winged cherub figure that has been a beloved decorative motif in European art and architecture since the Italian Renaissance. The visible round J-box sits between the wall and the brass shell-shaped backplate. It mounts over your existing pre-installed wall J-box and houses the wire connections inside a code-compliant enclosure. This is a deliberate design choice to ensure the lamp is safely installable in U.S. and Canadian homes — many imported decorative sconces lack this and require extra parts or fail inspection.

Visually, the round box reads as a clean architectural pucker — most users find it integrates well with the brass shell backplate as a unified composition.

The Putti measures W 11.8″ × H 6.7″ (W 30 × H 17 cm) — a compact wall sconce footprint, ideal as a single accent piece or as a flanking pair on either side of a mirror, headboard, or doorway.

Installation is hardwired to a standard wall junction box via the included round J-box assembly. The brass cherub-and-shell unit attaches to the front of the J-box. Requires an external wall switch (not included) for power control. An electrician is recommended unless an existing wall J-box is already in place.

The Putti uses a small candelabra-style bulb (E14 or E12 base). E14 is the European 14 mm candelabra base; E12 is the slightly smaller 12 mm North American candelabra base. The fixture's socket accommodates both.

For the most flattering glow through the frosted floral glass shade, we recommend warm-white LED candle bulbs (2700K). Vintage Edison-filament bulbs also work well for a more romantic, traditional read.

The fixture works with a common wall switch; for dimming, pair with dimmable LED candle bulbs and a compatible LED-rated wall dimmer.

Dust the brass cherub and shell backplate with a soft, dry microfiber cloth regularly. For the frosted glass shade, use a slightly damp cloth — avoid abrasive cleaners which can scratch the matte finish.

The brass will develop a soft natural patina over time, which is part of authentic brass aging. If you want to preserve the as-shipped polished look longer, occasional treatment with a brass polish keeps the finish bright. If you prefer the lived-in vintage character, simply leave it untouched.

Avoid placement in humid or salty environments (bathrooms with poor ventilation, coastal homes near open windows) — moisture can accelerate brass tarnish more than usual.
